Penny J Lehan

Penny has practiced in the areas of real estate (residential and commercial), corporate and business law since 1990. She brings extensive knowledge and experience when acting for buyers and sellers of businesses, structuring incorporations, corporate reorganizations and commercial leases. Penny works with many local family businesses managing their ongoing legal needs including succession planning and working closely with their accountants. Acting for purchasers of four different Island wineries, she continues to manage their ongoing corporate matters. Penny loves being connected to her community and assisting small businesses, new businesses, local farmers and artisanal producers to ensure they have the proper business structure in place and to help them with matters that arise along the way.

Penny grew up in Sidney and lived in Vancouver for 30 years before gleefully returning to the Island. In Vancouver she worked at a downtown law firm, starting in the typing pool and working her way through the ranks. She put herself through undergraduate and law school at UBC while working as a legal secretary, graduating in 1989 and articling at the same firm. She went on to manage her own small firm for many years, building trusted, long-term relationships with clients and associates. She has also worked for the Law Society of BC as a consulting forensic practice examiner, custodianship advisor and in a general capacity helping to maintain practice standards.

In 2012 Penny and her husband Ron moved to the Cowichan Valley to pursue the Island lifestyle and haven’t looked back. They were drawn to the area by their interests in local food production, the burgeoning wine industry and recreational opportunities. Penny enjoys rowing and kayaking in Maple Bay, hiking on local mountains and participating in the Duncan Farmers’ Market. She also enjoys volunteering in the community and helping non-profit organizations like Cowichan Green Community and Cowichan Intercultural Society. She currently sits on the Boards of the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce, Maple Bay Rowing Club, Cowichan Valley Film Society and Slow Food.
